Bringing Kincardine Students Together Through Team Unbreakable

Behind the Run: Celebrating Community Support for Youth in Kincardine

On May 20, about 450 students from Elgin Market, Huron Heights, St. Anthony’s, and Ripley-Huron Community School gathered at École Elgin Market Public School to celebrate completing their eight-week Team Unbreakable program with a 5K Goal Event.

This event is a great example of what Team Unbreakable can become when a community comes together to support its youth. The Kincardine Family Health Team is at the heart of it. After introducing the program to the community years ago, they've continued to play a huge role in making it a lasting part of Kincardine, coordinating across schools, securing sponsors, and organizing the end-of-program 5K Goal Event. They also visit classrooms to give kickoff and midway presentations, helping students understand the program and get excited about taking part, while supporting the teachers who bring it into their classrooms. Their ongoing involvement has helped Team Unbreakable become an established part of the community.

We're also so grateful to the teachers who take on the role of Program Leaders and make Team Unbreakable part of their students' experience. By guiding students through the program, they're helping them build healthy habits, understand the connection between physical and mental health, and develop skills they can carry with them long after the eight weeks are over.

Although Kincardine is a long way from where our own events take place, students there don't miss out on the excitement of celebrating their achievements together. Thanks to the Kincardine Family Health Team, students from multiple schools can come together for a 5K Goal Event of their own, building connections across their community while celebrating what they've accomplished.

With support from local sponsors, South Bruce OPP officers and cadets, and other community members, this event is a wonderful example of what can happen when people come together to support youth. We're so grateful to everyone who helps make these opportunities possible.

Thank you to the Kincardine Family Health Team, the Program Leaders, and everyone in the Kincardine community who helps make this possible. Your commitment allows Team Unbreakable to grow and thrive in local schools, and we're so grateful for all you do.
